Andrew Christer is one of the most sensitive and versatile musicians in the North East, and one of its foremost organ virtuosos.
For over 20 years he has been Principal Accompanist for Cleveland Philharmonic Choir, and has played in most of their concerts during this time. These have included all the major works of the choral repertoire from Bach to Walton, a highlight being Britten's War Requiem in 2018. Learning its very difficult introduction was a labour of love.
Andrew's teachers have included some of the world's top organists and choral directors, while his own pupils have had considerable success in ABRSM diploma examinations. He has played at most of the UK's Cathedrals, and locally was organist at the recently closed Railwayman's Church in Darlington for over 40 years. Since February 2022 he has been interim organist at St Cuthbert's in Darlington, and before that worked as Sales Manager at Williams The Music People in Darlington.
Some years ago he was accompanist for the Tees Valley and Durham County Youth Choirs. To this day he still works as Principal Accompanist for Exams at Durham Music Service.
Outside the world of music Andrew enjoys a pint or two, walks with Wilbur and Indian curry.
